Linen Care Guide

Linen Care Guide: Preserving Natural Elegance

At Aurélie Studio, we select the finest premium linen for its breathability, durability, and timeless beauty. As a noble, natural fibre, linen requires specific care to maintain its structure and softness over the years.

Follow our expert guide to ensure your Athena and Riviera pieces remain impeccable season after season.

1. Washing: The Gentle Touch

Linen becomes softer and more supple with every wash, provided it is treated correctly.

  • Hand Wash: We recommend hand washing in cold or lukewarm water to preserve the integrity of the fibres.

  • Machine Wash: If using a machine, select a delicate cycle (maximum 30°C) with a mild detergent.

  • Avoid Bleach: Never use bleach or harsh whitening agents, as these weaken the natural fibres and may alter the garment’s colour.

  • Pro Tip: Wash your garments inside out to protect the surface of the fabric.

2. Drying: Respect the Fibre

Correct drying is essential to prevent shrinkage and maintain the garment's shape.

  • Air Dry: Hang your piece in the shade, preferably on a padded hanger or a flat surface, to avoid marks and stretching.

  • No Tumble Drying: Strictly avoid the use of tumble dryers. Excessive heat makes linen fibres brittle and causes irreversible shrinkage.

  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Strong sunlight can fade colours and dry out the natural moisture of the fabric.

3. Ironing: The Secret to a Crisp Finish

Linen has a natural tendency to crease, which is part of its organic charm. However, for a more polished aesthetic:

  • Iron While Damp: The secret is to iron whilst the fabric is still slightly damp.

  • Temperature: Use a high temperature setting (the 'Linen' setting on your iron).

  • Iron Inside Out: Always iron on the reverse side, especially for darker colours, to prevent any unwanted shine from appearing on the fabric.

4. Storage: Room to Breathe

Linen is a living fibre that needs to "breathe" to stay fresh.

  • Cool and Dry: Store your pieces in a well-ventilated area, away from humidity and direct sunlight.

  • Hangers or Folds: Hang dresses and blouses on high-quality hangers. For folded items, avoid stacking too much weight on top to prevent deep creases.

  • Avoid Plastic: Never store your linen garments in plastic bags for long periods; choose cotton or linen garment bags for protection.
